I have written over 80 books for K-YA. Many are titles in my middle grade series: American Diaries, Survival, and Hoofbeats. The Unicorn's Secret and The Faeries' Promise series are for young readers. ((excerpts are up on http://www.kathleenduey.com)) Dark, atypical fantasy for teens and adults is my new love. My first YA novel,Skin Hunger, was a 2007 National Book Award finalist. Sacred Scars was released in 2009. The third book in the trilogy is finished and in the production process now.

Um so did blue-haired girl have a rib removed or what? My gosh that's a tiny waist. But looks like fun time was had.
Her mother was with her and she assured me her daughter has a tiny waist and a small ribcage and that the corset probably took 3-5 inches off.... not 10-12 as it appears. As a fashion, yes, corsets harmed MANY women. Seeing the steam punk costumes made me want to write something, though. I had a conversation with a young man that kind of inspired me. Young men (and women, increasingly) need frontiers, unmarked territory.
Those are some fabulous steampunk costumes. As you well know, there's nothing I admire more than a well-made corset.
Although, when I saw the girl with the tiny waist, I did wince. Edwardian actresses often had their waists retouched in photos to make 'em look as small as hers does, naturally...
Joanne, I thought about you while there....
There were thousands of amazing constumes and some of the steam punk ones were show-stoppers. There were many couples. The clothes look SO good on both genders...dashing, adventurous---- adventurous in a corset, even!!
